This film happens in the Brazil of the beginning of century XX and is about a Negro and ex-slave (João de Camargo) that suffers several deceptions in his life and starts to see god. It makes him create a new church for helping others. His church mixes the magic of his Negro roots, with the glory of the Christian civilization. This character survives until today in the popular thoughts and is called “The old Negro João de Camargo”. The directors are Paulo Betti and Clóvis Bueno, and the main actor is Lázaro ramos (João de Camargo)
