The movie begins with an old lady,, staring out of the window of her room...Just then an old man comes up with her valet...His duty was to read to her...The old lady was Allie Calhoun...She was suffering from acute amnesia...The doctors had given up and said that she could not be cured...The old man,, her husband,, however believed that he could bring back the lost memory of her wife...He was Nova Calhoun...He starts reading their own story to the old lady to remind her of her old days...The story begins at a carnival...A country boy (Nova )sees a charming girl (Allie) and falls in love with her...yes,, it was love at first sight...He tries all his wits and humor to impress her and he succeeds...Allie too starts liking him...Allie was the daughter of a rich and reputed man while Nova was a poor country boy...Allie's parents took the whole love story as 'summer love' which they thought would slowly fade away...However,, things didn't go as they wanted them to...It was not merely 'summer love'...It was something more than that...When Allie's parents realized this,, they screamed at Allie and asked her to break-up with Nova...Nova heard all this screaming and shouting and he realized that their relation could not go far...He decided to end his relationship with Allie...Meanwhile,, Allie's parents shifted to some other town and Allie got busy with her studies...However,, as we all know,, true love never dies...Nova got restless and was missing her badly...He wrote letters to her one after another until there was a bundle of 365 letters,, written each day of the year...The letters,, however,, did not reach Allie..Instead they were taken care of by her mother who didn't want Allie to get into an affair with Nova once again....Many months went by....Allie became nurse in a hospital...There she meets Matthew Jamison,, an army officer,, who was admitted to the hospital after being injured in a war...Soon,, Allie and Matthew come closer and began a relationship...Allie's parents gave their consent for their marriage...Nova buys a new home for himself and renovates it...It was the same house that Nova had shown to Allie,, years ago and had promised her that they would live happily in that house...Nova comes to the city where Allie used to live and sees her with Matthew...Allie reads in a newspaper that Nova had build a fabulous house and was selling it...She gets restless and decides to go to Nova's town to meet him...She goes to Nova's place and sees that he had build a beautiful house...Nova tells Allie that she could stay there and spend some time with him...She agrees to this suggestion of Nova...They go boating in the sea and it begins to rain...They remember their past...Allie complains that Nova didn't even once tried to stop her when she was going...Nova tells him that she didn't reply to even one of those 365 letter that he wrote to her...At this point Allie objects because she didn't even get one letter out of those...Their love was true and they made up their mind to stay together...Next day Allie's mother comes to Nova's place searching for her daughter...She finds her in an abrupt condition which suggested that she made was making love with Nova...She explains to her daughter that she was engaged to Matthew and should behave like an engaged woman...Allie asks her mother about those letters...She confesses that she hid them from her because she didn't want that Allie should remember her ugly past...However,, as time passed,, her mother softened and she told Allie to do what her heart wanted....Allie followed her heart and decided to go back to Nova and start a new life with him...
The old man ends the story at this point...The old lady,, Allie gets her memory back and hugs her husband...However,, this return of memory was just momentary...Nova succeeds in curing her amnesia but only for a little time...On seeing his failure,, Nova gets a heart attack and gets rushed to hospital bed...He wakes up at night and goes to his wife...He lays beside her and holds her hand...After that an attendant opens the door of that room and finds that both the husband and wife were taking taking rest....eternal rest....The story ends with their demise...
