The movie Pothey Holo Deri was an Agradoot Chitra Production . Directed by Agradoot and writer was Pratibha Basu . Artists were Uttam Kumar , Suchitra Sen , Chhabi Biswas , Anup Kumar , Shova Sen , Pahari Sanyal and Jahar Ganguly . The Mahanayak Uttam Kumar performed tremendously well along with the beautifull siren Suchitra . Chhabi Biswas as the grandfather also gave a strong performance .The side artists also did justice to their roles.
Jayanto Mukherjee ( Uttam Kumar ) was a simple , middleclass , charming , fresh medical graduate who came to Darjeeling for work . He got a job in a local nursing home , as a surgeon trainee . In the neighbourhood Mr. Bannerjee ( Chabi Biswas ) , a rich buisenessman had a granddaughter named Mallika ( Suchitra Sen ) .
The story starts when one evening Mr. Bannerjee was out of station in Kolkata , his grandson accidently fell from a ladder and broke his arm . In a fit of panic , Mallika took her brother to the adjoining nursing home where Dr. Jayanto plastered his fractured arm .Thereafter Dr. Jayanto started visiting their house on one or the other pretext . Soon Mallika and Dr. Babu fell in love with each other . Unfortunately her grandfather had other plans for her . He wanted her to marry a young lawyer who was the son of a rich father and a friend of Mr. Bannerjee . When Mr. Bannerjee came to know about their relations , he rebuked both Mallika and Jayanto and asked them to stop their relationship immediately. Mallika advices Jayanto to go abroad for F.R.C.S degree . Jayanto before leaving for Britain marries her secretly in front of Kanchenjungha hill . From Britain Jayanto kept on writing letters to her . Jayanto earned the F.R.C.S degree and was sent to the hospital in Europe for further training . Mallika was very happy when she came to know this . Unfortunately one day Jayanto’s letter fell into Mr. Bannerjee’s hand who on reading the same could bear no more . In a fit of anger he wrote a letter to Jayanto asking him to forget Mallika as she has forgotten him too and is willing to marry another young man . But atlast the destiny made them meet again and they lived happily thereafter .
The movie has a lot of coincidences . Sometimes it also makes the weep but creates a rich , delighted and emotional sign on the viewer's face atlast . Meanwhile the viewer can also enjoy the refreshing scenaries of Darjeeling from his/her home with a popkorn bowl . Not only this , the movie also has a pleasent melodious music directed by Robin Chatterjee and voice of Sandhya Mukhopadhyaye .
