Be Kind Rewind

Movie Review   by:BhavyaJeena

Passiac, New Jersey. Mike (Mos Def) is left in charge of Mr Fletcher's (Danny Glover's) video rental shop - Be Kind Rewind. Jerry (Jack Black), Mike's best friend, accidently becomes magnetised and wipes out the content of all the videos in the store. Mike and Jerry are now in a fix. The municipality is already threatening to close down the store. Mr Fletcher is not making any profits and the demolition crew is scheduled to arrive in 6 weeks. Mr Fletcher decides to do some recon work outside the enemy DVD-World store. Mike and Jerry, on the other hand, have no clue of what they have done. They are only presented with the immediate danger of a store full of blank tapes. They decide to re-shoot these epic blockbusters using amateur hand-held cameras and props. An effort which they call 'Sweded.' The results are hilarious. Ghostbusters, Rush Hour 2, The Lion King, King Kong, Driving Miss Daisy, Grease (among a few) are shot in comic style and the whole neighbourhood loves it! Whoohoo! Video has been revived. The neighbourhood are investing in their own productions and profits are 'incrementally increasing.' Sadly, there's a minor copyright dispute and the tapes are smashed. But hey ho, they can't destroy an original idea... so the epic epic vid of the 'Life and Times of Fats Waller' is produced using cardboard cut out cars, a cello made of tyres, fingers representing piano keys and pizzas for blood. Wow. makes me want to get out there and shoot a movie.
