Marilyn Monroe

Norma Jeane Mortenson or Norma Jean Baker was born on June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles. We don’t know who was her father. It could be Charles S. Gifford, Harold Rooney, Clayton McNamara, Edward Mortenson and any other man. She was a daughter of Gladys Baker. Gladys worked in Hollywood and she didn’t have time for looking after Norma.

So Norma went to a surrogate family or orphanage. Her childhood wasn’t happy. She didn’t have  a normal family. Although she had a mother, didn’t have out orphan. One day she went to Edith A. Atchinson’s home. Norma loved her like her real mother.

Children at school didn’t like her and laughed at her. She was called ‘Mouse’ and ‘Bean’.  But when she was twelve, she became more beautiful. Boys loved her, every wanted to carry her bag.

When she was sixteen she got married to Jim Dougherty. They divorced after four years. In the meantime Norma was a suggested to become a model. She agreed. After that she got involved with 20th Century Fox. She changed her name for Marilyn Monroe.

She made her debut in1947 in ‘Scudda Hoo! Scudda Hay!’. At that time Marilyn played in many movies, but not the leading parts. She always played ‘stupid, sweet blondes’.

After a while she played in ‘Clash by Night’ and ‘Don’t Bother to Knock’. Next hit was ‘Niagara’ and ‘Men prefer Blondes’, which made her a real film star.

In 1953 she became first Playboy mate and got many others awards. On June 26, she made her footsteps before Chinese Theatre. She became an idol…

In the same year she played in ‘How to marry a millionaire’. It was a smash hit! Critics said that she’d been wonderful! She turned into famous actress and starred in next movies.

In 1952 she met Joe DiMaggio – New York Yankee’s player. She married him in 1956. But Joe had to play baseball, so she was bored. She went to Korea, where she sang for soliders.

When she came back to U.S.A, the production of  ‘The seven year itch’ began. This is a one of the most famous scenes where Marilyn is wearing a beautiful white dress which was blown up by a gust of wind caused by a passing train. Joe was angry and very jealous. They divorced after only 274 days marriage. Marilyn was desperate and hopeless. She started to take drugs. But she wasn’t alone for a long time.

In 1956 she got married to Artur Miller. She was so happy! They went to England where she met Queen Elisabeth II. She played in many movies. Unfortunately her good luck finished. She miscarried second time.

In 1958 she played in ‘Some like it hot’. It was a total box office winner! She got a ‘Złoty Glob’ for the best comedy actress. But work with Marilyn wasn’t easy. She was always late and didn’t remember her lines. There was obviously something wrong with her…

Suddenly she fell in love with Yves montland. She thought that it could be a big love, but for him it was only a temporary love affair.  When newspapers started writing about it, her husband got angry!

Than she played in ‘The Misfits’ with Clark Gable. One week before the opening night she got divorced from Artur. After that she played in ‘Something Got To Give’ (it was her the last movie). She and Joe DiMaggio made it up. They wanted to a married again on August 8, 1962. She felt as if she was born again. 18 May she sang ‘Happy Birthday Mr. President’ for John F. Kennedy. Later on she signed a new contracts for a movie. Everything seemed ok, she looked happy...

But on 5th August, Evince Murray, her land, found Marilyn Monroe on her bed. She was nude and dead. There were pills on the cupboard. Till now we don’t know why and how she died…

Marilyn Monroe always wanted to be a film star. Her favourite actors were Clark Gable, Charlie Chaplin, Marlon Brando, Will Rogers. She admired Greta Garbo, Jean Carlo and Ginger Rogers. She liked fine arts very much. Her best painter was FranciscoGoya and Pablo Picasso. She loved music of  Louis Amstrong, Beethoven, Wolfgang.A.Mozzart, Frank Sinatra and Fitagerald. She liked reading books of writters like F. Dostojewski, J.D. Salinger, John Keats.

Marilyn  was very elegant women. She provided for herself. She used Channel no 5 every evening before sleep. She usually ate in Romanoff Restaurant in Hollywood.

She had attack of bulimia. Sometimes she could eat 3 eggs with toasts, 3 helping of chips, 2 cups of hot chocolate, big ice-cream and a few hamburgers on one supper.

She was 164 cm tall. She had 38 size shoes. Marilyn joked that she wanted to have inscription ‘Here is Marilyn Monroe, 95-95-90’ on her grave.

Marilyn liked wearing jazzy clothes or nothing. She wore very expensive and tight dress and walked high-heeleds. Her favourite colors were black, white, red and buff.

            Marilyn Monroe was symbol of sex. She wasn’t just a movie star. From 1997 you can buy ‘Barbie’ looks like Marilyn. It is wearing a white dress from ‘The seven year itch’.

She became an icon. Today, the name ‘Marilyn Monroe’ is synonymous with beauty and sensuality. In 1988 one of star was called ‘Marilyn Monroe’.
