Characterization/Story Ideas of Indian Films

Movie Review   by:puja

A. Singh Is Kinng – Directed by Anees Bazmee, the character of Happy Singh played by Akshay Kumar is comical yet appealing because his efforts are for the good of others, though he lands them always in trouble. Happy Singh is a common, simple character who ends up teaching the lesson of humanity to the entire community.

His character sketch is an example.

B. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi – Directed by Aditya Chopra, Surinder Singh, played by Shahrukh Khan is the protagonist of the film. He looks like a village/small town guy with big-black spectacles and oil in his hair, who inherits very old traditions. No girl would love him but the strength of his nature, his devotion for love, his sacrifice and qualities not only steal the heart of his circumstantial wife, Taani but of course the public, as well.

C. Ghajini – Directed by A R Murugadoss, Ghajini is an action thriller with an element of love. The character of Kalpana, played by Asin is humane and kind. Though as a struggling model she tries to disguise herself as the girl friend of a billionaire, Sanjay Singhania (played by Aamir Khan), her small concerns for the disabled kids, fighting for the rights of girls, etc make her the attraction of the film. Her bubbly, determined nature is also her strength. In one of the scenes, she is dressed like a Santa Claus and gives presents to a sleeping street child, which really touches ones heart.

D. Dostana – The debutant director, Tarun Mansukhani’s idea of the film may not have appealed to the public but the strong bond of friendship between Priyanka Chopra, Abhishek and John Abraham is the main attraction. Though the boys play tricks to win Priyanka’s heart, in the end they apologise and bring Bobby Deol and Priyanka together.

E. Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na – Directed by Abbas Tyrewala, the entire movie is full of fun, love, friendship and day-to-day characters. Everything about the film looks perfect.

F. Rock On – Directed by Farhan Akhtar, this rock-band musical drama has again highlighted the strength of true friendship among the four friends, played by Arjun Rampal, Farhan Akhtar, Luke Kenny and Purab Kohli who reunite to relive their moments of glory as a rock band. Their bond of friendship is the USP of the film. Such facts make a film memorable even if its not universally acclaimed.
