I went to see this film on a free preview, as I'd normally wait until I had a lazy Sunday afternoon to hire on DVD what I thought was going to be just another mildly amusing, very cheesy and probably predictable chick-flick.
However, I was 100% glad that I was dragged along to this one.
Mildly amusing? Try laugh out loud funny.
Cheesy? More like sharp, witty and capable of making the whole cinema cringe and giggle simultaneously.
Predictable? Of course it was, but there were enough unpredictable twists, turns and yet more laughs to stop that from mattering.
Sandra Bullock playing Margaret Tate, the staid, grouchy, uber-cow boss from hell, is back to her best since Miss Congeniality. Ryan Reynolds as Andrew Paxton, her 'executive' assistant who is forced to marry her to allow her to stay in the States, plays the straight man perfectly.
The film focuses around their trip to Alaska to break the news to his parents, and convince them that the woman that he's professed to hate all the time he's worked for her, is now the love of his life. Not only does she have to convince them she's the right woman for him, she's also got to convince Kevin the Dog, another little quirk that carries the story along at a rate of knots.
If you're looking for something that you don't want to have to think too hard to follow, to make you giggle and to come out the cinema laughing every time you remember certain bits (the impromptu hen-do is a belter) then go and see this film.
Oh, and please feel free to rate this summary, I'm new to all this and I'd like to know how I'm doing - thanks (and please be gentle!) :)
