First, rather than use "What's Up with Love?" as the English translation to the title, I would have used "What is it about Love?". Certainly, the plot is basically about two teenagers experiencing those roller-coaster emotions that come with the first yearnings of love/mutual attraction. They find themselves behaving quite unlike their usual selves, and it makes them stop and ask the question "What is it about love?". (Of course, it ties in nicely that the female protagonist's name is Cinta, which is "love" in Indonesian).
One of Indonesian Teenager Movie that awaken Indonesian Cinemas on 2001. Story about romance of teenage girl named Cinta (Dian Sastro), a girl which famous, beautiful, smart, and cheerful in her school and Rangga which an arrogant and indifferent boy. The first they met when Cinta as a school's journalist tried to interview Rangga, who the winner of poem festival at their school. But the truth was Cinta just wanted to know who the one that make her lost in that festival, because she always won before. Firstly, cinta hated rangga so much. But day after day and time passed away cinta has different feeling to rangga and rangga too.
But their love must be separated in distances, because Rangga got a scholarship to study at another country. And they promised to keep their love until Rangga came back.
This movie was the one of indonesia movie's icon. The other was PETUALANGAN SHERINA. The Soundtrack made by Melly, with the same title. And just like the movie, the OST also become hits too. and the Album became the most hot album in that year for months.It has been ages that people have seen any Indonesian films. The last time any people were terrified as a child from watching those gore-filled Indonesian horror movies.
AADC was both entertaining and inspiring to me. It got people thinking about beginning a new screenplay that follows the concept of AADC but of course not in the same vein. Indonesian people have been playing around with the story idea about someone turning 30 and the trails involved with that for quite some time now. That might be the next thing that I might try. It may not be as successful as AADC but I will do it for just the satisfaction of being able to.
