Victor Creed's father kills Logan's father, then tells Logan that he is his father. Logan goes insane with rage and grief, and kills Creed. Then he runs away, Victor going with him. As they grow up, they take part in war after war. Creed gets more and more out of control. He likes killing, a lot. Eventually, they're put in front of a firing squad. They survive.
Major William Stryker offers them a chance to work with a team. The team is similar to them, being mutants.
The new team goes to Nigeria. They go through squadrons of soldiers easily. Stryker doesn't want the diamonds the soldiers are protecting. He wants the meteor fragment on the head man's desk, and he wants to find the rest of it. When they travel to it's origin, the team kills villagers until someone tells them where it is. Logan has had enough killing. He stops them, then walks away.
Logan gets a job as a logger, and falls in love with Kyla Silverfox. He's happy, until Stryker shows up again. Stryker wants him back, telling him someone is killing off the old team. Logan refuses.
After he tells Kyla of the visit, she tells him the tale of the wolverine. The wolverine was the moon's lover, but the Trickster told him to give her flowers. He didn't tell the wolverine that once you leave the spirit world, you can never go back. So the wolverine howls at the moon, knowing he can never touch her again.
Dropping Logan at work the next day, Kyla drives off. Creed stops her a few miles away. Logan finds her, not breathing and covered in blood. He hunts Creed down and they fight. Logan loses and Creed breaks his bone claws.
Stryker shows up again. He offers Logan a chance to defeat Creed. He takes him to a secret lab and infuses adamantium into his bones. This makes him indestructible. Logan wants new dog tags, saying "Wolverine."
Logan hears Stryker give the order to erase his memory. He escapes and runs to a farmhouse. He is taken in by a kindly older couple. They feed him, give him clothes and a jacket. Stryker has sent Zero after Logan. Zero kills the old couple, and blows up the barn. Logan survives and goes after h him. After a very exciting chase, Logan kills him.
Logan hunts down the old team, trying to find Victor. He finds John Wraith and Fred Dukes. They tell him that the team was used to hunt down mutants. Dukes tells him about the mutants being taken to an island, to be experimented on. Then he tells him Stryker and Victor run the island together.
Logan realizes Stryker had Creed kill Kyla just to get him to agree to let the adamantium be put in him. Dukes can't tell him where the island is, but he tells him about the only prisoner to escape there. A man named Remy LeBeau, or Gambit as fans know him.
Logan "convinces" Remy to take him to the island.
I especially liked Ryan Reynolds playing Deadpool. Since Deadpool's nickname is the 'merc with a mouth,' Reynolds smart mouth style really lived up to the reputation. Couldn't have chosen a better pairing.
