Kolchak: The Night Stalker

Movie Review   by:snowcat

Carl Kolchak is a reporter who likes to find supernatural stories.  He tends to play fast and loose with the truth to get his story.  This infuriates his editor.  In the first episode, his editor pays him back by putting him in charge of answering Miss Emily's mail.  That's a version of Dear Abby.  That was a minor disaster with his attitude. The police aren't very fond of him either.

Kolchak runs into an assortment of strange beings.  A copycat Jack the Ripper, or is it the real one?  In another, he meets a zombie, and almost loses his life.  Then there's an alien that eats bone marrow.  How about a vampire who nails a call girl and she spreads the "love?"  Or a werewolf on a pleasure cruise?  These are just a few of the weird things that show up.

I really missed the old Creature Feature that used to be on.  This one was better because you already knew the main character, Kolchak.  No type of critter was ever repeated, so you never knew quite where the story would go in the later shows.

X-Files broadened the format with two FBI partners.  That one had its share of monsters, but it usually stuck to the alien section.

As a kid, I always loved Kolchak.  He was such a loose cannon, you never knew quite what he'd do next.  He was like a pit bull, he never let go of a story.
