Agent Vinod (2012)-Movie Review

Movie Review   by:puja

A bold effort by Saif Ali Khan and Dinesh Vijan, the producers of the action flick, Agent Vinod (2012) on the lines of James Bond or Jason Bourne films, the movie makes the viewers more confused and stressed out as they walk out of the theatres. The story is how Agent Vinod played by Saif Ali Khan tries to discover and stop a nuclear plot planted by the terrorists. He is the protagonist playing a RAW agent who is assisted by his team, his boss and Kareena Kapoor, with whom he falls in love but losses her she dies. He gets in action when his friend, Major Rajan, played by Ravi Kishen is killed at the hands of the terrorists and arms smugglers and from there on begins the movie and the unstoppable action which makes the audience confused and tired. In the end, the nuclear disaster is averted making Agent Vinod the undisputed hero.

The story of the film needs many character actors played by Ram Kapoor, Prem Chopra, B.P.Singh, Shahbaz Khan, Gulshan Grover, Adil Hussian, Rajat Kapoor, Dhritiman Chaterji, Arif Zakaria, Maryam Zakaria and Vasilisa Petina. All the actors have surely done justice to their roles but with so many of them in a fast-running movie are difficult to remember each of them during and after the film. This is because the pace of the film is too fast. Till the time one understands the present scene, the 2nd one is about to end and third starts.

It was good to see old T.V. and film actors all together on the big screen and their credit of course goes to Saif Ali Khan. It was sad to see Kareena die in the film but that was surely the requirement of the script. The various international locations where the film is shot, adds to the USP of the film.

Overall, it’s a good effort on Saif’s part to venture into films as a producer with the action genre. The topic of the film is ‘how big economies control the share market and their involvement in nuclear attacks’ is definitely relevant of date and well treated, except for the fast track action. It must be watched atleast once by movie buffs. Of course, it was great to see the real life lovers, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, together in a film and in love.
