These are only the first words said in the movie and the viewer is already conquered.
This sentence,as deep as much as it simple,is only one of the many beautiful quotations in this film.
The movie is a romantic drama and before you diqualify it and say that it's probably as kitchy as all the other thousands of romances give me a chance to intrigue you a little bit.
The movie is about a seventeen year old rich girl who comes from the big city to a village for a summer vacation.She's not a spoiled girl that disrespects those who are in a lower class than she is,but she's a little girl that must live her life by her parents' expectations.Allie, the rich girl, ,is noticed by a plain local guy,Noah,After he succeeds to "convince" her to go out with him they spend all their summer together.Her parents don't pay much attention to their love,being sure it's only a passing summer adventure,but Allie and Noah know that what they feel towards each other is much more than just a temporary passion.
When Allie's parents start worrying about their daughter's relationship with the rural young man being too serious they decide to leave the village and go back home before the end of the summer.Noah is deeply in love with Ellie and that's why he's afraid from what her parents are afraid of,that he'll prevent her from advancing in life.They seperate from each other,but their feelings don't fade away. During the year after their seperation Noah sends Allie letters,one letter each day,letters that she didn't receive at that time.
After seven years Allie plans marrying to another man that she had taken care of during the Second World War after he was injured,buy she accidentally sees Noah's picture in the newspaper,picure in which he's standing near the house she dreamt of,the house that was buil for her.Allie can't hold herself and goe to meet Noah.When they meet they wonder why they lost what they had,when actually they know that they didn’t lose it at all because something as true as their love can never die. They aren’t in love with the routine as many of us are because they didn’t have any routine together, and it’s neither just a love of children and therefore it succeeds in the test of time.The two of them are just in love with each other,they don’t have to make much effors to maintain their pure feelings for each other because they truly know the meaning of love.After they meet it all depends on Allie's decision,are you curious to figure out whether she decides to fulfill her love towards Noah or to marry the one she's already engaged in?
It sounds as another ordinary love story,the one we're already sick of watching but this one is different.
The movie presents the story by using a great combination of good actors such as Ryan Gosling (Noah Calhoun) and Rachel McAdams (Allie Hamilton),beautiful soundtrack,the time of the story that brings us back to the past-to the 40's of the 20's century and the fact that the story is told retroactively.
I can't convey to you the magic of this film in words but I recommand you to watch it.
