Whip It

Movie Review   by:gaby4801

Whip it is a coming of age story that centers around a teenager about her life who is the daughter of a used to be pageant queen. It has all of the makings of a hit, from the drama, to the heartbreak and everything that comes with life in general.Which i guess everyone can relate to because this is life and we all live in a world where our decisions are sometimes made by others whether we like it or not. Another film i keep thinking about every time i look at Whip It is Juno. Maybe because the two have similar structures the drama in her life, there's nothing to live for so i might as well do whatever type of feeling that both seem to have, easy going is what describes these films. They're not over processed with the cleshae Hollywood plots or titles that many celebrities star in but rather more the indie quality which you know is going to leave you wanting more and taking experiences away from which you wouldn't get leaving a big time movie like lets say the avengers. If you ask me its just not so complicated to understand yeah it requires deep thinking and putting more meaning and emphasis behind the plot its worth it at the end the out come you receive is just wonderful enough to watch Whip It over and over again repeatedly. I'm not saying you should take my word for it but more go out and see it yourself if its good or bad well that's your opinion. But at the end of this review the movie you are now watching in your living room trying to find this deeper meaning i speak of is nowhere to be found and at the end you seem to be disappointed.Well here's the things about movies the morals you cant seem to find in the movie you already know and love yourself. You've grown up with them and spent afternoons and classes pondering about them. If it makes sense don't think of in a way such as that think of it as wow it had alot of impact on me it certainly did for me. Just the whole fact that her mother pushes aside her feeling towards pageants i can relate to in many ways more than one not the pageant part but how parents mentally block out your feeling subsiding them with their own. Maybe that's why she starts to have that i don't care problem if you don't care you can make your own decisions without many trying to break you down change your mind about it or see the decision go up in flames. I don't necessarily think any of you should or shouldn't not care but maybe every once in a while take a Que from her and you wont have anyone doubting the endless possibilities you are capable of.I wish people could see how glorious these type of movies are instead of seeing them as a person living down by the river in a band wagon.
This isn't the Beverly Hillbillies its a movie made with heart and soul which describes a true and utterly real indie film. Thats all it is about when looking at films and we've yet to understand that action and stardom dont necessarily make up a great film but the ones that leave impressions on us till the day we die is something a film should have. My life so far hasnt been peaches and roses but this film has shown me that anything is possible as long as you have a dream and a bus ticket. Which some films i watch never make me want to do that but this one seemed to just hand me a one way bus ticket to new york where anything is possible.I hope she got her ticket to and she did not necessarily to new york, but something far more wonderful finding a place where you are accepted. Which not everyone finds and few are lucky to even find it. It takes courage and determination to get there but one does not have to have the biggest dream to fulfill them. If we can have the amount of courage potential she had maybe everyone hope could last and no one would ever be shot down. This is the final mark you should take away from this film. Never ever give up on your dreams you will regret it if you do and you wont be the only one you're disappointing. Many people will be disappointed and think of that little brother or sister if you give up on that dream what shot do they have of fulfilling theirs.None. They look up to you for a reason and you have to give them a reason too and if that means fighting so hard for your dreams you have to do that.Whether it kills you because if it almost dosent kill you to achieve your goal in life than its not worth it. No dream is easy to achieve as she expresses in the movie she has to fight through her biggest opponent her mother who's stopping them but soon realizes she would rather have a daughter who is happy instead of hating her for the rest of her life and really what else could you ask for than a happy daughter. Overall this film left me not only wanting more but absolutely trying harder to achieve the dreams i wouldn't normally have the guts to go out and actually try.
