Snow White and the Huntsman

Movie Review   by:Jastime

Luckily, like the rest of us, :-) I wasn't expecting the original tale of Snow White to be depicted in this movie. I was actually surprised that i was still enjoying the movie halfway into it.. The twist in the story funny enough, gave me the motivation to finish watching it, but when i was done, all i could think about was, why did they cast Charlize Theron as the evil Queen, and Kirsten Stewart as Snow White? Why, do you ask, that i feel this way? Well, let me explain.

As we all know, The whole of Snow White's existence revolves around the beauty she posessed, and the Queen's seething jealousy of it. I personally feel that they should have given Snow White's role to another actoress of far more youthful, radiant beauty, than that of Kirsten Stewart's, to make it more believable to the audience. This notion that just because an actoress is currently hot in Hollywood, should play major roles in big productions is completely silly. Her success in the twilight sequels was well deserving, but the way this hollywood directors cast roles to promote box office success is so selfish. I mean, dont get me wrong, the girl is cute, but there are other actoresses her age, that are far more beautiful than her, who would have been perfectly suited for the role. For Moses' Sakes, Charlize Theron is more beautiful than her, and she was the one playing the role of the evil Queen!! Furthermore, that whole 'girly-knight-save-the kingdom' act wasn't fooling anybody. But at least, i got to see Kirsten Stewart display some kind of emotion on her face. I always thought she was emotionless in the twilights, one blank stare, the whole movie.......maybe it was part of the script, being around vampires and all, but hey, that's just me.

Charlize Theron is hot....isnt she just the perfect example of a gorgeous woman? I have always thought so, and i also have been a big fan of her acting. However, she did not give an outstanding performance in this movie. I did not buy that she was an evil Queen. There was never a time in the movie, that i felt sorry for Snow White for how evil she was being to her and the people of the Kingdom. She had a few outbursts of attempts to sound evil, but nothing memorable, i would say. The amazing effects did enhance the 'evilness' she was trying to put forth, but her own efforts were weak. But her presence in the movie made it worthwhile, i mean, she is lovely to look at.

I do not want to give too much away, just incase you haven't watched it, but I will tell you this; Even though they did not stick to the original story of Snow White, the twists in the tale were well implemented, and they made sure that they had relevance to the story. In other words, they were careful not to stray from our already beloved tale. The huntsman, played by Chris Hemsworth, did a preety good job in his role, but i was not amused by their idiotic attempt to put a 'mini twilight' ideology into the prince and the huntsman, although no rivalry, but both were in love with her....That was so Kirsten!!!...hehe....The effects were what amazed me, more than anything else, and to think that the dwarfs were normal height actors, digitally altered to look like dwarfs....that some good video production!

All in all, this movie is one of those you watch, after watching all the others, that you may deem as watchable.....poor casting was their first bad call, everything else went downhill after that.
