The Avengers

Movie Review   by:ReaditDiva

Planet Earth is in trouble. Loki, evil brother of Thor from planet Asgard, has stolen an unlimited source of energy called the tesseract so he can rule the human race. There's only one thing the people of Earth can do; call in The Avengers, a team of powerful - yet unpredictable - superheroes: Captain America, the Incredible Hulk, Ironman, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Thor.

If you haven't seen the previous superhero movies released by Maravel Comics, don't worry. You'll still enjoy watching The Avengers. One of my favorite scenes is when Agent Natasha Romannoff (a.k.a. Black Widow) is being interrogating by German intel. S.H.I.E.L.D calls her up on one of the soldiers cell phones and orders her to come in. '"I'm a little busy here," Black Widow answers, "I'm getting this moron to tell me everything." But when S.H.I.E.L.D tells her Agent Barton (Hawkeye) has been compromised by the enemy (because Loki touched his heart with his spear which magically brainwashes Hawkeye over to the bad side), Black Widow then proceeds to kick everyone's butt.

The movie slows down a bit after Loki is captured and taken aboard S.H.I.E.L.D Helicraft and there's intense friction between the Avengers, especially Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. But the action picks up again when Dr. Bruce Banner transforms into the Hulk and the Avengers battle Loki and the enemy. In the previous Hulk movies, the Hulk was created using CGI. This time actor Mark Ruffalo got to actually BE the Hulk (using stop-motion capture and Avatar stop-action). Basically Ruffalo's face on a huge Hulk body. The result? A mean, ugly green monster that tried to "Smash!" everything in its path. Perfect.

The Avengers is only rated PG-13. Great action movie for the entire family. I can't wait to see what adventure movie Marvel Studios comes out with next! If you want to find out how the Avengers got started, click on the movie review link below to Captain America: The First Avenger. For another great action movie based on Marvel Comics, try X-Men First Class (link below).
