Ice Age 4: Continental Drift

Movie Review   by:ReaditDiva

Scrat, the hungriest squirrel in history, still can't catch that nut! His frantic scramble for an acorn causes the continental drift, sending Manny the Mammoth (Ray Romano), his wife Ellie (Queen Latifah), Sid the Sloth (John Leguizamo), and Diego the Sabertooth Tiger (Denis Leary) on another prehistoric adventure.

In this latest animated adventure, the earth is breaking apart. So is Manny's mammoth family. His rebellious teenaged daughter, Peaches (Keke Palmer), sneaks away to have fun with her friends after Manny tells her not to. He hunts her down and embarasses her in front of the "cool" mammoth kids. While they are fighting the continent splits wide open. Manny, Diego, Sid are sent floating out to sea on a too-small iceberg. Manny yells to Ellie to "Stay alive" and meet him at the land bridge, but a band of iceberg pirates, led by a rowdy monkey called Captain Gutts (Peter Dinklage), stands in their way. Funny characters like Scrat, Sid and newcomer granny (played hilariously by comedian Wanda Sykes) hold this fourth ice age adventure together.

Ice Age films pop up every few years like other long-running animated movies - Toy Story, Shrek, Cars, and Madagascar to name a few (see links below). Movie sequels are great for families like mine who have grown to love the characters. But sometimes I think movie franchises should stop at the top, especially if they've run out of interesting story ideas. Ice Age 4: Continental Drift was good for a few laughs, but I found myself hoping (just a little) that this would be the last one. If you go see the movie in the theater, don't miss the fun music video featuring the cast of characters singing "We Are Family".
