This film is in conflicts and clashes from the day
it was thought to be produced. Starting from story to cast everything had a
clash, Cast which was decided first fall back one by one due their reasons.
Story is such that it might provoke the religious extremist.
Mehta decided to shoot the movie at Srilanka in Colombo. She
feared of protests or riots if she shot at Pakistan by Muslims and by Hindus if
in Mumbai. Although she faced many problems in Srilanka too. When Iran
government complained about the film to Srilankan government the production of
this film was stopped but Mehta requested Srilankan president and shoot was
back on road. This film is banned in India to avoid clashes.
Deepa Mehta has previously got critical acclaim for her films like Water and fire which stirred controversies due to their controversial subject matter.Her upcoming film is expected to stir protests from religious groups as film is based on hindu muslim religious conflicts.Film is based on 1980 novel by Salman Rushdie , novel stirred many controversies at its time of release.Film is an awaited event for film critics as last Deepa Mehta Film got an academy award nomination and its a combo of two controversial personalities.
