Hope Springs is a comedy about a middle aged couple Kay and Arnold who over the years have lost the sparkle in their marriage. After thirty years together their life is the same old routine everyday. Kay is frustrated because her husband pays no attention to her and of course he does not even notice something is wrong. Every morning they get up each from their respective bedrooms, she cooks him the same breakfast, serves it to him while he reads his newspaper. Then he leaves for work and tells her he'll be back at six. After work he sits in front of the television, watches his golf until he falls asleep in front of the tv.Kay hears about a famous therapist who will be holding a retreat for couples in need. Kay pays for everything and then convinces Arnold to attend the retreat with her.He is really not convinced and he goes to please her. We follow them through their therapy sessions and activities they have to perform as instructed by the therapist.
I found the movie very entertaining, funny and down to earth. Of course to no surprise the attendees were 99% women
I think this movie hits home for many viewers. Meryl Streep is very convincing in her role as Kay. She describes her feelings really well. We don't usually see Tommy Lee Jones in a role like this one . I was surprised because I found him to be amusing and at the same time likeable. Arnold is a complainer, and in his world there is always a problem. He doesn't like changes. If something works why shoul he change it?
If you want to relax, not think too much this is the movie. You never know you might come out of there with new tricks to spice up your couple.
