Schubert on Bbc Radio 3: Guardian Guide

This week I have had the pleasure of listening to the history, musical career, and family connections of
Schubert on BBC Radio 3: And I must admit the programmes have been informative, educational and
enjoyable and I suppose it's interesting to discuss what Schubert's diet and his daily menu may have
consisted of and how Schubert as a composer has held one to the Radio ... as listening to all of this
is a great pleasure.

I decided to follow through Wednesday 28 2O12 on BBC Radio 3, and as follows are some highlights ...

Breakfast on Radio 3 with Petroc Trewlawny which explores Schubert's fascination with the concept of The Wanderer -
a great way to start the day and at best to get off to a flying start.
Followed by: Essential Schubert with Sarah Walker and Tom Service ... ....aat 1O.OO before Gerard Souzay
features in a short lieder reciter - Roger Scruton selects classic recordings of Schubert songs:
A particular favourite of mine is:

Donald Macleod explores the years 1822-23 during which unsettling changes were witnessed in Schubert's life including
serious illess and the breaking up of his circle of friends:

So if like the information reads and spreads enthusiasm for Composer Schubert then there is Lunchtime Schubertiad: Melvyn Tan and Clara Mouriz at Finchcocks: Later that same day: Afternoon: The Spirit of Schubert with the composer's fifth and sixth symphonies and Tom Service surveys ... musical fragments in . the Schubert Lab at 3pm: There is a short break for a religious programme which presents Passiontide devotion live from St Paul's Church Knightsbridge based on Schubert's Stabat Mater in F minor: Continuing on: In Tune Schubert Salon - New Zealand string quarter:

Evening music on BBC Radio 3 ... if we are still around is: Schubert in Concert: and Play Schubert For Me with Sara Mohr Pietsch: and finally on the same day: Night waves' Philip Dodd focuses on the composer's Winterreise: With throughout the night with John O'Shea in The Spirit of Schubert: Swelling the music scene with the sounds of Schubert: Great entertainment from BBC Radio 3: today!
