It was 2007 and a new artist Lady Gaga emerged with her song "Poker Face". I was most shocked that people seemed to enjoy the song because of how meaningless and repetitive it was! Ever since then she has become more popular with songs like "Alejandro" and "Love Game". None of this bothered me until people started comparing the new and attention crazed Lady Gaga with a music Icon, Madonna.
In truth there would be no Lady Gaga without Madonna. In the 80's Madonna roared onto the music scene with her hit "Like A Virgin" from then on it was hit after hit until finally today she has had 38 Dance Hits on the Billboard charts. She changed the way an entire generation felt about sexuality and each other.
People today compare Lady Gaga with her four year career by saying Madonna is no longer relevant. Really? In 2009 Madonna's tour, Sticky And Sweet became the most successful tour of all time for a solo artist earning almost $500 Million! In the year ending 2011 Madonna made another $500 Million through the sales of her live album and clothing line. Not bad for someone who is no longer "relevant" eh?
Lady Gaga fans claim that Madonna is out dated, when most of Lady Gaga's so called "outrageous" trends have already been done by Madonna years earlier. This year alone Madonna has already had another No. 1 album and is selling out arena's around the world, AGAIN.
People say Lady Gaga is reaching out further than her music to the public to be a hero and help the people of the world and that Madonna is selfish and a Diva. Madonna has spent MILLIONS in Malawi and even built school's there. Selfish you say?
In conclusion, I am tired of seeing Lady Gaga's name in every Madonna video comment on YouTube. It is time people stop comparing Icon's with Music Phases.
What do you guy's think?
