John Lennon was one of the most popular musicians of the twentieth century. He was probably the world's favourite member of the Beatles.
In nineteen eighty he was living in New Yourk with his wife, Yoko Ono and his son, Sean. On Monday, December 8th a group of John Lennon fans were waiting in the square outside his flat. A young man called Mark Chapman was waiting with them.
John Lennon left his house early in the morning with his wife, Yoko Ono. They were going to the recording studio. They walked across the square and John signed a record for Mark Chapman and then they got into a car.
That evening, John Lennon returned home. Mark Chapman was still waiting in the square. He had a gun. He said, "Mr. Lennon". John Lennon was turning around when Mark Chapman shot him five times.
Marc Chapman did not escape. He sat down and read his book - the police officers arrested him when he was reading.
Later that night, John Lennon died in hospital, he was only fourty years old.
That was the short story of the last day of one of the famous musicians in the world. However his memory lives on.
