I love the Disney classic, Beauty and the Beast. So this past weekend, I got a chance to watch the musical at the Golden Gate Theater.
As expected, there were many children, especially the little girls dressed up in Belle's yellow dress. A perfect time to wear a Halloween costume. No children under 5 years of age can watch the musical.
Songs from the movie are sung in the musical, such as 'Be Our Guest' and 'Beauty and the Beast'. Of course they provide additional songs to the musical to make it as their own. The scenes which involves being harassed by the wolves can be dark and hard to see due to the screen. Still as the adult, it's kind of hilarious to watch the fake wolves. Watch out for the burst of white strobe light during the scene when the Beast transforms back to the Prince. It was totally unexpected and slightly hurt my eyes.
Belle's beautiful yellow gown from the movie wasn't what it was suppose to be in the musical. Instead, it reminds me of a Gone With the Wind gown with all the ruffles but maybe I'm just being critical. The musical does have the similarities to the movie for the little ones to enjoy, especially if they know the movie by heart.
If you have children that loves this timeless Disney classic, this is a musical for them to watch. However, this time around, the musical was for only two weeks. So if and when it comes around again to San Francisco (or where you may live), bring the little ones to watch it and have a good family outing.
