In the second episode of The Glee Project the theme is Theatricality and the homework song is “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga. Idina Menzel, who plays Shelby Corcoran on Glee, is the guest mentor and after the contestants sing she picks Alex as the winner. The contestants are told that their group number for the video shoot will be Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It". The video concept is a dream sequence in a high school cafeteria. The contestants are told that they will play outsider kids who fantasize about being rockstars.
During the choreography rehearsals, Damian and Ellis struggle to get the moves right. During the recording studio session, Samuel has difficulty, it seems as though McKynleigh is not having fun and Robert J. Ulrich wants her confidence to show more. Nikki Anders gives Lindsay a suggestion to change the way she sings her lines and when Lindsay tries it she nails it on the first take.
Since Alex won the challenge, he received one-on-one time with Idina Menzel. Menzel tells Alex to think of a time when he felt ostracized in order to bring out the meaning of the song.
After the video shoot, Ulrich chooses Ellis, Mateus and McKynleigh for the Last Chance Performance. McKynleigh sings “Piece of My Heart” by Janis Joplin, Mateus sings “Gives You Hell” by The All American Rejects and Ellis sings “Mack The Knife” by Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darin. Once the performances are over the Call Back and Not Called Back list is posted. Ellis finds herself on the Not Called Back list leaving ten contestants to fight for the seven episode spot on Glee.
