Just finished watching the first season of Game of Thrones - a new TV series by HBO. Only one word comes to mind after watching the first season - Masterpiece!!!. HBO has had a long standing reputation of producing some brilliant TV shows and Game of Thrones will only help enhance that reputation.
The T.V series is based on the series of epic fantasy novels - A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin. The story largely takes place in the fictional world of Westeros and consists of different races (humans, dragons, whitewalkers) and dynasties. I will not expand the story line further because that will be doing injustice the complex, multilayered and thoroughly engrossing story. You have to watch it to appreciate it.
The series has a wonderful cast, with all putting in wonderful performances especially Peter Dinklage (Death at Funeral). The costume and art design is wonderful (The Wall looks beautiful and foreboding) and the plot and character development leaves you wanting for more.
A word of warning though. The series contains a substantial amount of gore and nudity. Also for people who are expecting it to be something like 300, LOTR etc - Stay Away. This is a much more mature subject matter
However for those who are looking for political drama, intrigue, deception, betrayal all sprinkled with generous amounts of blood and nudity and a little dash of fantasy, this is the perfect dish.
Another word of advice, please don't try and read the summary of this series or the books. You will get completely confused with the number of characters. Just sit back and let the story unfold on its own.
