This a prequel series to the anime series Ga-rei.

If you’ve seen the original Ga-Rei you probably understand the
concept behind the setting. There’s a government group called the
Ministry of Environment to the public or Supernatural Disaster
Countermeasures Division (SDCD) who consist of a group of people with
the ability to see the supernatural (Which normally consist of demons
ranging from categories A-D. ‘A’ being the most deadly, ‘B’ second
mostly deadly and so on, until you reach ‘D’ which are basically
zombies.) and exorcise them.
However, the main focus of this series is the relationship between
one of the ministry’s agents and an ex-agent. Although that’s not to say
there isn’t much action in between, it’s not lacking in fight scenes.
The 2 main characters concerned are Yomi Isayama and Kagura
Tsuchimiya. I’m not sure how to describe the first 2 episodes without
giving spoilers away. Anyway, the 3rd episode onwards is based as a
flashback about the relationship developing between Kagura and Yomi.
When Kagura’s mother dies in an exorcism attempt Yomi convinces her
father to let Kagura live with them. Then a sisterly relationship
develops. The anime follows a series of events that occur with in Yomi’s
life leading up to where the flashback began.
This series is very good and when I watched it I became engrossed in the episode. As I have not seen the main series Ga-Rei I cannot say how it compares.
