Castle Series Review

Movie Review   by:clow_willy

The series, Castle, is produced in 2009 by ABC Studios. It tells about a writer, Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion), searching for an inspiration for his newest book. Although, it is a bit harder for him to get along with Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) - an NYPD’s homicide detective he has chosen as the muse. - As time goes by, the two find themselves got romantically involved.

In the first season, we are told how Castle can finally end-up with Beckett. The first season itself doesn’t have a lot of episodes. However, it is ended with Castle told Beckett about his discovery about Beckett’s mom’s murder case. The second season is begun with Beckett’s disappointment towards Castle and how Castle finally apologizes to her. In this season we also found Castle and Beckett working in a case with a federal agency, the FBI.

On that specific episode, “Tick, Tick, Tick”, we see a quite advanced technology which can make most of the people amazed. This particular episode is also split into two parts. The season two is ended with Beckett slowly get a boyfriend, which make Castle jealous and a bit broken-hearted. At the very last episode, Beckett ended her relationship and willing to tell Castle about her true feelings. However, when she was about to spill it out, it is interrupted with the entrance of Castle’s ex-wife.

The season three is begun with Beckett’s disappointment to Castle again. Of course we see Castle trying to apologize to her again. Again in this season, we see Beckett and Castle working along with federal agency, but this time it’s DHS (Department of Homeland Security). In the two-part episodes “Setup” and “Countdown” we don’t find advance technology shown like what we saw in the episode “Tick, Tick, Tick” from the previous season. However, we found Beckett is again, doesn’t get along really well with other federal agent.

Furthermore, throughout the season three, the series tells us more about Beckett’s mom’s murder case. Until the very last episode, Beckett was very close to the solution of the case but she can’t go on again because of the key person, Capt. Montgomery, - her own chief in the 12th Precinct is murdered. - Moreover, in this very last episode, Castle told Beckett about his true feelings but sadly, Beckett was already shot when Castle told her so.

Moving on to season four, it begins with Beckett being carried to the hospital. A very tense moment is described when Beckett was dying. Furthermore, the beginning of this season is about Castle was disappointed to Beckett because she ignored him for couple of months. Also in season four, we see that Beckett was recruited by another federal agency, the CIA. Of course in that particular episode, Beckett once again doesn’t get along with the agencies.

From what I’ve written above, we can see that there are some kinds of pattern. For people who haven’t watched it really seriously, they might feel bored. I think the director made this kind of pattern to show about US strength seen from the defense and military side. However, if we compare the series with any other series which have the same genre, Castle is the most entertaining one. The cases brought up are not too hard for common people to understand. What make it even better are the jokes we heard when Castle started to explain his own theory to solve a case. Another thing which makes people are willing to watch the show is about the feelings which are always held by the couple.

With those positive values in this series, it’s clear that Castle is a series which is suitable for young adult aged 20-35. Which is why, this series has quite a lot of loyal viewers throughout the US.
