Richard
Cypher is the hero of the story of Terry Goodkind. The original title is the
book The sword of Truth. A whole new world can be known through view of
Richard. He was the last hope of the people of Hartland and Middland against
tyranny. According to the Prophecy he was the Seeker. His weapon was the sword
of Truth, which was invincible among hands of the real Seeker.
He grew up
in a foster family and he did not know anything about his heritage. Zedicus the
wizard lived in his neighbourhood to see and take care of him. He got to know his
own family story and himself during his adventures. The truth, defence of the
innocent people and his love to Kahlan were the most important in his life. He believed
in himself and he did not believe in destiny. He was the first Seeker for 1000 years.
He always
paid attention what was happen to people, and found every trap. His partners
who followed and helped by were his family. His love was unrequited love
because of the power of Kahlan. Kahlan’s power took away the free will of the
people and she could not rule it in her passion. But as seeker Richard needed
his free will. That’s why their love was unrequited. They understood that their
mission was more important than their personal happiness.
Richard
made everybody surprise with his honest heart and clean mind. He could learn
very quickly about the magical levels of the world and people. He seemed to
read in everybody heart and mind. He could adapt to every situation and use the
new knowledge immediately. Even so he had to pass through numerous adventures
to get know who was he and how he could win in his fights.
My favourite
part is when Richard was trapped and torture by a Mord-Sith named Denna. He was
tortured by Agiel but he knew the secret of Agiel and was trained how he could
survive this torture. Denna told Richard
Kahlan’s power’s secret also. After his escaping Kahlan wanted to tell him her
secret, but Richard knew yet. Kahlan told him that she lied earlier when they discussed
their feelings. At that moment Richard understood he had to dig his feeling
deep inside. He assured Kahlan he knew how he could stand pain in silent, he was
trained by Denna.
