The theme for the fifth episode of The Glee Project is Adaptability and the homework song is “You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morissette. Robert J. Ulrich tells the contestants that they will not be picking the lines that they want to sing. Instead, Ulrich gives them, at random, a lyric sheet with a highlighted part.
The guest mentor for this week is Kevin Mchale, who plays Artie Abrams on Glee. Since the theme is adaptability, Mchale tells the contestants that they will not be performing the song as a group, but individually. Aylin was chosen as the homework song challenge winner. The contestants are told that they will not find out the song for the group number until they are in the vocal booth with Nikki Anders and they won’t learn the choreography until the day of the shoot.
The group number is “Price Tag” by Jessie J. Both Shanna and Michael pick up the song quickly but Abraham and Ali struggle with pitch while in the vocal booth.
Mario has trouble taking direction during the video shoot. Blake has difficulty picking up the choreography on the spot.
For the last chance performances in front of Ryan Murphy, Charlie, Ali, Mario, Blake, Abraham, and Nellie will all perform as duets. Ali and Abraham will sing “Last Friday Night” by Katy Perry, Mario and Charlie will sing “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” by Elton John and George Michael and Nellie and Blake will sing “Waiting For A Girl Like You” by Foreigner. After the performances, Murphy tells Alli, Nellie and Blake that they are safe, leaving Mario Charlie and Abraham as the bottom three.
When the Call Back list is posted, Mario finds himself on the Not Called Back list, leaving nine contestants to fight for the seven spot episodes on Glee.
