The theme for the eighth episode of The Glee Project is Tenacity, and the homework song is “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child.
The guest mentor for this week is Amber Riley, who plays Mercedes Jones on Glee. When the contestants finish singing, Jones chooses Ali as the challenge winner.
The group number is “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor. Robert J. Ulrich tells the contestants that the video shoot will be one continuous shot. The contestants will have to complete an obstacle course set in a gym and if anyone messes up during the shoot, they will have to start from the beginning.
There will be no choreography for the video, so the contestants go straight to the vocal booth. While the contestants sing together for a few lines of the song, Lily overpowers the group, making it difficult for Nikki Anders to hear the rest of the contestants.
During the video shoot, the contestants are told repeatedly that they need to keep singing as they go through the obstacle course. In one of the sections, Aylin and Lily must turn double-dutch while Abraham and Michael skip. They have difficulty singing while turning the rope so after a few takes double-dutch turns into one skipping rope, making it easier for the four of them to concentrate. While exited the gym for his next take, Abraham trips and twists his ankle but keeps going. For the last shot of the video, Ali must make a basket from behind her back. Since she is having so much trouble it causes the shoot to restart over and over again. In the end, the contestants choose to lift Ali in her wheelchair so that she can make the basket.
Michael, Abraham and Lily are chosen to do last chance performances in front of Ryan Murphy. Lily will sing “I’m The Greatest Star” from the musical Funny Girl, Michael will sing “Brick” by Ben Folds Five, and Abraham will sing “Man in the Mirror” by Michael Jackson. When they are done with their performances, Abraham comes back onto the stage to apologize for his performance during the week. He tells Murphy that he will not leave until he wins the competition or Murphy writes a role for him on Glee.
When the Call Back list is posted, Abraham finds himself on the Not Called Back list, leaving six contestants to fight for the seven spot episodes on Glee.
