The Royal Society derives its authoritative status from its 1400 Fellows and Foreign
Members.
The Royal Society was founded on 28th November 1660. It was in this era when an "invisible college" of natural philosophers began meeting to discuss the ideas of Francis Bacon. The founder members of the society were; Christopher Wren, Robert Boyle, John Wilkins, Sir Robert Moray, William, Viscount Brouncker and six others.
