ing precious metals from
OsIrRu-ore was introduced in the present paper. The main technology involved the fragmentation of
OsIrRu-ore through alloying with Zn and Al, the oxidation volatilization of osmium at high temperature, the alkali-smelting, the leaching of residue with water after cooled, and the precipitation of Ru(OH)4 and OsO2·2H2O from the aqueous solution using alcohol as the reducer and the preparation of powders of osmium, ruthenium and iridium through reducing their compounds by means of hydrogen. More than twenty kilograms
OsIrRu-ore were abstracted successfully. The recovery ratios of all precious metals were more than 90%, among them, the recovery ratio of iridium was more than 95%. The purity of products of osmium, ruthenium and iridium was higher than 99.9%. Comparing with traditional process, the new method possessed many advantages such as high efficiency of fragmentation of OsIrRu-ore and oxygenation volatilization of osmium at high temperature as well as the lower cost of production. It is especially suitable for treatment of the substances such as OsIrRu-ore and iridosmine containing higher contents of osmium and ruthenium. A Pilot Production for
abstracting of precious metals from OsIrRu -ore proved that the process was practical and valuable and novel, and a new method of abstracting precious metals from OsIrRu -ore has been invented. The patent of this technology was authorized by the Patent Office of China.
