BACKGROUND:It is reported that the decoction,syrup or tablet of cassia seed all can reduce blood fat.However,what the active
elements are is still unclear. OBJECTIVE:To discuss the effects of protein and
anthraquinone glycoside of cassia seeds on blood fat of rats with hyperlipemia. DESIGN:Randomized control study. SETTING,PARTICIPANTS and INTERVENTIONS:The experiment was done in the Experimental Animal Centre of Xian Medical University.80 SD rats were selected and randomly divided into 8 groups according to weight which were normal group,hyperlipemia group,duoxikang positive control group,small dose protein of cassia seeds(0.25 mg/kg per day),large dose protein of cassia seeds(1 mg/kg per day),small dose anthraquinone glycoside of cassia seeds(5 mg/kg per day),large dose of anthraquinone glycoside of cassia seeds(20 mg/kg per day) and combining application of low dose protein(0.25 mg/kg per day) and low dose anthraquinone glycoside group of cassia seeds.(5 mg/kg per day). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:The effects of different doses of protein of cassia seeds,anthraquinone glycoside of cassia seeds as well as combining application of low doses of them on total cholesterol(TC),triacylglycerol(TG),low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL C) and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL C) of rats with hyperlipemia. RESULTS:The TC,TG and LDL C of large dose protein of cassia seeds group<(2.08±0.54),(0.50±0.14),(0.69±0.35)mmol/L> were significantly lower than those of hyperlipemia group<(2.69±0.67), (0.79±0.30), (1.17±0.52)mmol/L>(t=2.24,2.77,2.42,P< 0.05).The TC,TG and LDL C of large dose(20 mg/kg per day) of anthraquinone glycoside group were also much lower than those in hyperlipemia group(t=2.73,2.36,2.28,P< 0.05).In the group which used both small dose protein(0.25 mg/kg per day) and anthraquinone glycoside(5 mg/kg per day) of cassia seeds,the above three indes were also clearly lower than those of hyperlipemia group(t=3.62,3.13,P< 0.01;t=2.80,P< 0.05). CONCLUSION:Both protein and anthraquinone glycoside of cassia seeds can reduce the TC,TG and LDL C of rats with hyperlipemia.
