Owing to Chinese political corruption since late in Qing Dynasty, literature has had to make some
excessive compensation
for politics. In the process of over-compensating, regarding itself as a tool of
propaganda, literature followed the discourse rule of serving as a mass media in order to extend propaganda's practical effect —— enlarge the number of people who read it —— therefore, so-called mass speech took place of pioneering discourse (BaiHua Wen) of intellectuals, so-called national style replaced the western literary form-fiction. However, the process led to, to some degree, literature's twisting and distortion, resulting in non-literature, even counter-literature. In addition, that kind of imagination about folk also built a Utopia of left-winged literature, making all non-literature and counter-literature legal, main-trend, and powerful. Worker literature, the lowest form in Chinese literature, inheriting in disguised form from both the discourse resources of the left-winged literature and reform literature and shock wave of realism, is on the brink, but still worth studying further. By studying proletarian literature, this article reveals the recession of Chinese literature in the 20th.
