A software package was developed to simulate the parameters of
frame sawing of stone such as: effective cutting edges of
segments, contact area between stone and blade,
cutting forces per diamond grit, per segment and blade ,as well as the moving traces of segments on the stone surface. The results indicated that, in each cutting stroke, only half of the diamond grits participate in the cutting. The cross structure created by diamond grit in different position of segments are replicated on the bottom surface of the cut on the stone, which is nearly flat in the middle and uneven at the ends. The simulated date of cutting forces are in conformity with the measured value in the same changing tendency and on the same level. The cutting feed and the cutting performance of the segments are the main factors to determine the cutting forces and the segment wear. The optimal contact area between the blade and stone depends on the segment space, segment number and dimenstion, the ratio of the stone length and the effective length of the saw blade.
