ZA27 alloy was processed by spray deposited rapid solidification technique, the influence of the process on the
damping capacity
and the microstructure of the alloy was discussed, comparison between spray deposited (SP) and ascast ZA27 alloys on properties and microstructures were also drawn. It can be concluded that whether ascast or SP
ZA27 alloy, as increase of vibrate frequency or decrease of temperature, the damping capacities of the alloys decrease, whereas vibration amplitude has no effect on the damping capacities of the alloys at the range of vibration amplitude in the experiment. The
damping capacity of SP ZA27 alloy is 1 times higher than that of as-cast ZA27 alloy at ambient temperature. For example, the damping capacity of the SP ZA27 alloy is 1.62×10-2 at 1Hz and 30℃. But when the temperature exceeds a certain value, the damping capacity of ascast alloy will higher than that of SP alloy. It is found that the variety of damping capacity of the alloys was associated closely with their microstructures.
