AgCu composite films were deposited onto QSn6.50.1 alloy by ionplating. The
tribological properties of specimens in
vacuum (10-2Pa) were investigated using ballondisc friction and wear tester sliding against 9Cr18 steel ball. The SEM, EDS, XRD were used to analyze the wear tracks and the films. The results showed that QSn6.50.1 specimen coated with AgCu films exhibited better
tribological performance than that of uncoated specimen. The AgCu coated QSn6.50.1 specimen maintained friction coefficient of 0.23, whereas the uncoated QSn6.50.1 showed friction coefficient of 0.86. It is found that AgCu transfer films formed on friction pair 9Cr18 ball when it slided against the AgCu coated QSn6.50.1 specimen. Surface analyses also prove that Sn element in QSn6.50.1 substrate contributed to the formation of AgCu transfer films. As a result friction occurred with AgCu transfer film against AgCu coated film, and a low friction coefficient was achieved due to easy shear of soft metals.
