According to basic principles of the
melting reduction process, a treatment of low-grade zinc oxide
ores is investigated. The authors analyse basic principles of the iron bath melting reduction process and the
aluminium bath melting reduction process, conduct their experiments, and investigate the effects of such test conditions as temperature, time and basicity on the experiments, respectively. The suitable technological conditions obtained are as follows: for the aluminium bath
Melting reduction process, a reduction temperature of 1?100 ℃,a reduction time of 45 min, and a basicity of 1.1. Under the above test conditions, the following technical results can be obtained: 98%~99% ZnO and about 1.0% Pb contents of zinc
oxide powder, a zinc volatilization rate of above 90%, an expected zinc recovery of 95%, and below 3%Zn and 0.2%Pb contents of zinc residue. Compared with the existing pyrometallurgical processes, the melting reduction process is considered to be more suitable for treatment of zinc oxide ores.
