Rare refractory metals, niobium_hafnium alloy, niobium_tantalum_tungsten alloy and hafnium_tungsten_molybdenum compound
(ZrW 1_x Mo xO 8) etc, all this kind of materials have same characteristics of high melting point, high strength, high rigidity, they are popularly applied in space flight and aviation field. It's a difficult problem to analyze the component and impunity in this kind of material. In the analysis of
zirconium and hafnium, it's not only needed to separate the coexistent elements, but also to separate zirconium and hafnium. Because of the lanthanum_shrinking effect, zirconium and hafnium. are similar in chemical characteristic, to separate both of them completely is very hard, ordinarily we use ion_exchange chromatography, it is very miscellaneous and will take a long time. In this paper we established a new method that can analyze Zr, Hf at the same time. first pretreatment the tantalum_niobium by chromatography method on paper, then test by ICP_AES. The
determination range of zirconium and bafnium is 0 0x%——10 00%,RSD: 10%Hf is 0 97%, 0 5%Zr is 8 28%. The recoveries are 96%—104 5%(Zr); 94%—106 2%(Hf). The method has been employed to the determination of zirconium and hafnium in rare refractory metal and alloys with satisfactory results.
