ZK60 alloy was selected as a basic composition and Cerium(Ce) was added by 0,0.5%,1.0%,1.5%and 2%(Wt%)to prepare the
investigated alloys, respectively.Influence of Ce contents and processing on
microstructure and
mechanical properties of the alloys was studied. The results show that the coarse grain microstructure with heavy segregation at grain boundary is observed for the as cast Ce-free,
ZK60 alloy. However, the Ce have finer grains, and the grain-boundaries were purified at the same time.Obvious
dynamic recrystallization occurs in the investigated alloys after
hot-extrusion.Tensile strength of the investigated alloys increases with increasing Ce content. After aging at 150℃ for 0~24h(T5 treatment),the tensile strength and elongation of the investigated alloys are improved. The best mechanical properties are obtained for the alloy of Mg-4.85Zn-0.37Zr-1.35Ce.σ_ b and δ are 318.6 MPa and 14.4% for the alloy after extrusion and the values are 338.6MPa and 15.6% for the alloy after aging at 150℃ for 24h,respectively.
