The influences of five kinds of surfactants, such as T702,SPAN80,triethanolamine oleate,Tween80,NP-10,and their blends on
the properties of lubricant used in hot rolling aluminum were investigated by analyzing the stability,
particle size and
surface tension of the oil-in-water(O/W) emulsions. The results show that the surfactants have great effects on the stability of O/W emulsions. The addition of small amount of polar lubricant added in a non-polar mineral-based oil can bring about a considerable increase of the emulsifying capacity of surfactant, obvious reduction in the surface tension, and remarkable improvement in the wettability and the stability of O/W emulsion. The mixture of triethanolamine oleate and Tween80 or NP-10 can make the(O/W) emulsion particle smaller and more uniform than other surfactants, and increase the(wettability) and the stability of O/W emulsion. The type, hydrophile lipophile balance(HLB) value, content and their mixture of surfactant have great influence on the emulsion droplet diameter.
