Three -dimensional finite element method is employed for the calculation and analysis of influence of through oil holes on the strength of slide universal spindle forked joint in rolling mills, with the following results obtained:(1)Stress influence of different degrees occurs around all the through oil holes and this stress influence decreases sharply with the distance to the hole center increasing,so much that the oil hole exerts no influence at all on stress in the area far away from the hole center;(2)On the section crossing the middle of the arc of the forked joint, the twoway oil holes greatly affect the stress distribution on a certain area of the section, which is one of the reasons why the forked joint is liable to fracture from fatigue;(3)The edge of the oil holes is generally characterized by “stress concentration”,and only occasionally,by “stress dispersion”.This stress effect of the oil holes may point to the removal of certain materials in the area where stress is too significant, which can effectively reduce the stress in the very area. Also, the article has presented quantitative analysis into the stress effect.
