Hunger Eight hundred million people all around the world are usually malnourished and, each night, 200 million
children with
less than five years go to bed with an empty stomach. This number increases during food shortage periods and in times of shortage or social disorder. According to some estimates, malnourishment is a key factor to the death of 13 million
children who don''t even reach the age of 5. In 25
countries of the world, 15 percent of the children die before they reach the age of 5. The main causes of this terrible "inocent slaughter" are: diarreia, measles, tetanus, pneumonia. In the end, these are curable diseases with generic medicines, with low cost!... But when the most elementary forms of hygiene are in lack, what hope is there for these little ones? In fact, the neonatal mortality rate is still high in many of the countries at the Southern part of the world; it''s estimated that around 20 million children die every year just a little before birth, because of their mother''s bad nutricion during pregnancy.
