In one of the Silesian large
industrial plants, collapse of the considerable part of steel roof of the
two-bays production room took place in winter period 2005/2006. Falling steel
construction damaged edge girders of the adjacent timber roof, what resulted in
the situation that part of the production room roof covered with timber roofing
had been closed for utilization until complex experts evaluation was done.
During evaluation it was found out that timber construction reveals the whole
range of defects and damages posing a serious threat to its loading capacity.
The paper presents condition of the whole timber roof construction, describing
most typical defects, results of static-strength analysis, as well as scope and
method of running particular stages of the recommended repairs.
