for China and Japan but also for Russia and the United States, this is predominantly because of its bi polar proximity on the Northern Ecliptic,used for both satellite navigational aids and for Naval Defenses. Post War in contention apart from Taiwan, Formosa,but also for the contentious issue of The Kuril Islands ceded to the USSR after World War II, adjacent to this, is the ceding back to China from Britain, of Hong Kong, brought about by Chris Patten, the former Hong Kong Governor.However Britain has now more Admirals, than it has ships,and not enough skilled men to build them anymore. The Malaysian Peninsular,and Indonesia are also figured in the equation, regarding Naval Strategy, but the lynch pin is Manchuria. Manchuria or in Chinese Jilin, Liaoning,or Heilongjiang depending on which dialect of Mandarin one is conversant with, is the now the Russian Port of Great value Port McArthur, located on the same coastline as Vladivostok , this was renamed by the Japanese as Manchukuo.
