Life after 1000 years-5- Gray World

Article Abstract by: varghese

Original Author: Prof.P.A.Varghese
A.D 3000  will be a ‘gray’ world. Already there is a strong scientific thinking (based on today’s technology) that the
average age of man, in 3000, will be 1000 years.
A total demographic change would have taken place. Less births coupled with longevity will make the world really ‘gray.’  There may not be a graying of hair ( man would have already arrested baldness and graying of hair already).
Many nations are even now going below the replacement fertility level. As birth decline and people live  much longer, there will be a shift in the retirement age. Man will be able bodied and devoid of old age sicknesses or decrepitude even after a chronological age of say 200 in another two or three centuries. By 3000 there is a strong possibility that there is no retirement as such. Anyone can work as long as he can.
With all the physical work replaced by machines, computers and  robots man will have only the job of guiding and monitoring and programming. It may not be a surprise if you find a workplace in 3500 with all the workers above 1000 years old!
Obviously there will be less schools and nurseries. But there will be more infancy homes to take care of children.
But man would have conquered death. The scientists who are in the  Genome Project believe that ageing will be in control very soon and man will decide when he decides tol die. He will not become immortal or anything like that. There will be deaths due to accidents, snake bites, heart failures and due to the diseases caused by the new strains of viruses like the HIV which may defy man even at that advanced stage.
Will the world population increase once death is conquered? .Not probably. There will fewer births. And deaths will be there very much. Natural calamities will still devour man. New virus-that spread epidemics may be beyond the control of man. Traffic ( whatever form it may be then) accidents will be there too. Whenever brain or an important organ like the lungs or heart, which meet brain's  energy requirements, is impaired beyond repair, it will die. And then man dies too.
There will be very few births and that too selected ones.  Couples will select  their own semen and egg (after removing the genetic material which has the propensity for diseasesor deformities) or from high tech banks for high level intelligence, athletic and handsome body and  hand over the same for the artificial wombs for the pre-natal growth.
Once the babies are ‘delivered’ they will be taken to child care homes for bringing them up to the desired age. The parents will occasionally visit kids with presents and spend quite a bit of time with their genius level offspring.  It may become like a travel for merriment. Having a child will be a great event. Thousand of times’ more wealth would be spent on a new born.
Naturally, there will very few births.   The possibility is for the world population to dwindle and not proliferate.. It will be a totally  a new world with new requirements for the population over say 1000 years and absolutely new life styles. Thegray men will be leading sexually active lives and they will be living separate from their relatively young  500 or 600 year-old-children. The number of people in a house will be just two. An occasional visitor may make it 3, Marriages and honeymoons will be common among the 1000- years-old ones. Also, there can matches between a 1000 year old and a 20 year old! It will be really an interesting world indeed!.
