We will be moving in a world filled with smart machines. Robots will be everywhere doing all sorts of manual work and designing
the next generation technology. Some of them will be moving around looking very much like ourselves who created them. They will be taking care of the children, the injured and the decrepit and the invalid. Most of kitchen works will be handled by the computerized robots. May be we will be awoken at the programmed time with a ‘god morning’ and a cup of our favorite tea/coffee made in the perfect proportion. They might even do the brushing cleaning and dressing up for us. They may carry us to the gym and mow the lawn, water the plants and cater to the seedlings later carry us to our vehicles. These intelligent machines may change the notions about ourselves. Robots will become an intimate part of the society. In all fields of life computers will make new things possible and more and more will be done computationally. There may not be much space left for humans. The main values of our information society are related to data that must circulate and be processed quickly. Computers are much better equipped than humans in these tasks. Will this induce a drudgery in human life? E-mail and e-commerce will continue their inroads, but man will not like to be total recluses spending time with their machines. He will try to see that the increase in convenience no way ensues a decrease in the pleasure of being with a loved one, friends and relations. There are third-millennium futurologists whose fantasies are a little scaring.. Their assertion that we will interact only in cyberspace, ask the computers to design our children from in a near perfect manner—and all may not be exactly true. But the genuine promise of technological progress cannot be undervalued too. scientific progress will move in a direction that leads to delight rather than boredom. It cannot become purely mechanical and perfect in every way. Man will still be still appreciating art, literature and technology will be used to enrich their production, display and distribution. Robots will be a constant
companion for man. He will be doing all the work of a personal assistant and memorize all the
necessary data and making and answering all the calls when the boss is not around. After alighting from your vehicle or aircraft (whatever) it will carry you to your 100th floor office, take you to your seat, clean, help you get seated comfortably. It will check your dietary needs and prescribe a suitable lunch and serve it. Will it able to stimulate taste buds and make your lunch very delicious? The robotic companion will remind you of the business appointments, and help you in your work. The necessary prioritizing for tomorrow’ work will be done and all the necessary meetings arranged. Will these anthropomorphic machines make a partner of the opposite sex redundant? Will it be able to cohabit with a man and produce in him, through stimulating the necessary nerve centers of the brain, the bliss of orgasm and the pleasure of the foreplay? Will it able to carry artificial organs like ovary, have inbuilt mechanism to produces a genetically sound egg at the appropriate time, have the womb and the breast glands so that a child can be conceived by it and after the necessary prenatal life deliver the same? Can it do away with a female? Will it be able to take of a child until it is fifteen or so? Will there be robots the skin of which will be as smooth as that of an eighteen year-old girl? Just like the ‘she robot’ can we visualize having a man robot who will be an idle companion for an woman? She should be aroused and led to the full pleasures of sex life. ‘He’ should also give the necessary emotional support a woman needs andbe a good father to the child? But I feel noting can replace a human companion and the presence of a real person irrespective of whatever these machines are able to accomplish. Well, these are all conjunctures and we are only able to speculate on robots and their role after 1000 years. This can be extended to any length but let me stop for the time being. Varghese
