There is a trend of miniaturisation going on. First it was a car which soon followed by the launch of a miniature laptop by HCL. The laptop is available in X, Y and V series which differ slightly on features but there is a large difference in prices. The laptop is named Mileap.
The X-series is priced at Rs. 13,990 and it is the size of a organiser diary. It is available in Black and Pink leather covers for males and females respectively. it has wi-fi, a built in mic, SD card slot, 2 USB slots and built in speakers. What it does not have is a proper hard drive and even the flash memory is only 2 GB. It runs on a basic 900 MHZ celeron processor. The operating system is LINUX (edbuntu) which is good for web use, basic multimedia and documents.
The V-series costs a lot more at Rs. 33,990 but its features justify the cost. It is a Tablet PC with a touch sensitive swivel screen. It comes preloaded with windows Vista Home Premium operating system, has a 80 GB HDD and !GB RAM. Based on an intel 110 processor it has wi-fi, bluetooth, SD card slot, 2 USB slots, 1.3m webcam. The processor in both the laptops is sluggish and due to the small factor a number of things had to be miniaturised with the touchpad being 1 inch wide. However the X-series comes with dedicated pointer options on the left side of the screen, mouse buttons on the right and dedicated launch buttons for applications like web cam and internet explorer.
Overall the laptops make a good package.
