In the poorest
societies, woman’s sex –life is fully controlled by her man. The vast majority of them pass through
this life, perhaps never having experienced the orgasmic pleasure.
Normally a husband comes home late in the night drunk, and goes through the act routinely. He does not know the anatomy of sex organs nor how to arouse his wife sexually and make her enjoy sex.. In fact at he is not concerned about anything concerning her feelings, needs and yearnings. When he finishes off and turns to snore, she may not have been even ‘awakened.’ The poor woman endures the whole thing and lies awake with her in satiated desires just aroused. Day after day, the same routine is repeated. With her ignorance and illiteracy, she comes to think that there is nothing beyond what her husband does to her every day. We can only guess how many of them ever experience orgasm. They move on to their old ages with their unfulfilled cravings after giving birth to a number of children which is the only testimony to their sex life. .
An woman, playing the submissive role always, will never take any initiative to stir up her man either. She is only a passive partner and it is the man who does the starting, determines the modus operandi and finishes off the show.
In the strictly monogamous and highly puritanical
societies, sex outside marriage is inconceivable If the wife takes some interest in a neighbor or colleague, a whole lot of problems will be created. A lover is out of question unless she is prepared to risk everything: her life-security, financial security and home. In the patriarchal societies, the prudish males can outcast her and she cannot afford it. She conforms to the social mores and endures her life silently.
Extra marital
relationship in unthinkable for a woman. But the man who works outside and who has the economic means can manage it unscathed.
The husband gets a lot of opportunity for social contacts as he works outside and as he controls the purse whereas the wife is confined to the household chores and child bearing. He ill treats her and her life becomes a hell. As a big dowry was given at the time of marriage, her own parents will dissuade her from precipitating any problem as they cannot afford another dowry.
Marriages last mostly due to these reasons. If the woman was economically independent and if the dowry system is abolished, she will be able to command more respect and she will be able to decide whether to continue with the relationship or not. In the poor South Asian countries like it will take a few more decades for this to become a reality, especially in the rural areas. Once women are emancipated, divorces will become common here too. Already in the urban areas divorce rates are increasing day by day. Absence of divorce does not mean there are no problems in marriage here. Many are enduring everything and continuing with the relationship for the sake of themselves, their children and their parents.
