Memory plays a big role in the forward march of all. If it is not properly used it will rust and become blunt.
There are so many who have told me in my seminars that they cannot
remember the
names of those whom they
met yesterday.
Others say,
“I cannot remember even the persons to whom I lent out money. “
Well, in short, their memory is not functioning the way it should.
I use to tell them:
‘Before going to sleep, take a dairy and note down the names of the people whom you met that
day in the order of meting, the first person first, then the second and so on. Or
write down what you did that day in the correct sequence.’
“Or when you reach home after a
short trip to a new place sit back and write down the scenes of every nook and corner and not only the mile stones which you can easily recollect.
Otherwise try to note the main points of a book you read sometime ago. Calling your friends over the land phone (not from a mobile where the number can be dialed from its memory) without the help of diary might be helpful too.
Memory weakens without adequate use. After the eighties and all some neurons of the brain get lost. But this need not be a major concern. So many cells get destroyed when you drink, smoke or get hit in the head.
The memory can be very strong till 100 and beyond with proper exercise. Doing cross word or logical puzzles, playing chess with different players and those mentioned earlier will help you keep it sharp.
An intense desire to live long for a purpose helps too.
