While I was studying theology, the professor priest was discussing the freewill and god’s pre-determination.
God being pure act there is nothing in potency in Him. He knows every thing past and future. It is not simply that He knows them, but they happen because He knows them. One curious student asked the learned priest: “ since God determines everything, do we have to strive hard to use our free will to obey the commandments? Whatever we will do is already known to God. Every single deed of us is decided in Him from all
eternity. Things exist because He knows them. “ The priest was obviously not pleased. He thought about it for a long time. He tried to evade the issue saying that everyone had the freedom to do what he pleases. That God does not interfere with the free will. But the student persisted: “Is there is any potency in God? Can He change something He knows from all eternity? The priest was getting annoyed and He replied: “For those who want to know more, God has
prepared a place for them in hell.” Well, the whole class fell silent. No one wanted to go further. It was clear that, that was the way of God and His representatives. The poor aspirant said: I will, in that case, choose to go to hell and he sat down.
